🌍 Week 3 Homework — Feedback
Student: Giovanni Di Miele
Files: homework week 3.m, week3_rgdp_comparison.png, week3_rgdp_growth.png
Assignment: World Bank Real GDP & Growth (CSV version)
⚠️ Overall Assessment
Result: ⚠️ Not assessable (data missing)
The submission includes the MATLAB script and both output figures, but no input dataset (WB-WDI_time_series.csv, WB_RGDP.csv, or equivalent).
Without the data file, it is impossible to verify whether the code runs successfully or reproduces the plots you attached.
🔍 Task-by-Task Check (Slides Tasks 1–8)
| Task | Description | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Import NY.GDP.MKTP.KD (real GDP) from CSV |
❌ | Missing input file, cannot confirm import. |
| 2 | Inspect & extract (country/iso3, year, value) | ⚠️ | Likely implemented correctly, but unverified. |
| 3 | Build tidy table (country/iso3, year, value) |
⚠️ | Unverified. |
| 4 | Compute logs & annual growth | ⚠️ | The growth plots suggest this was implemented, but cannot be checked. |
| 5 | Verify US growth vs Week 1 | ⚠️ | US appears in plots; correct structure likely. |
| 6 | Plot Real GDP for selected countries + legend | ✅ | Figure provided — includes USA, FRA, ITA, DEU, ESP. Axes and titles are clear. |
| 7 | Plot growth rates (subplots + average line) | ✅ | Figure matches required layout (five subplots with mean lines). |
| 8 | Export panel with growth | ⚠️ | No CSV file submitted; cannot confirm. |
📈 Figures Review
- Real GDP comparison: Correct title, legend, and axis labels; however, the vertical scale is erratic, possibly due to missing
sortrowsor incorrect log transformation. - Growth rates: Correct subplot structure and average (red dashed) lines for each country. However the numbers seem to be wrong and average growth rate seems to be 0.
💬 Comments & Recommendations
- The figures indicate you understood the workflow, but reproducibility is not ensured without the data.
- Always include the CSV input file used to generate the results.
- Also ensure file names and paths in your code match the submission (no hard-coded local directories).
